Flood Damage Tips
Do...
- Remove yourself, other people and pets from affected area
- If water leak is caused by plumbing line, shut off water at the main
- Call Jim Black Construction to begin
Restoration process
- Call your insurance company to file a claim
- Stay out of rooms where ceilings are sagging from retained water
- Photograph as much of the damage as possible
- Remove standing water from flat surfaces by
mopping and sponging
- Remove all items from wet furniture tops
- Place aluminum foil squares or wood blocks under furniture legs to avoid furniture staining
- Take up saturated rugs and carpets when hardwood floors are at risk
- Freeze valuable books and documents to retard mold growth until drying can be performed
Don’t...
- Enter a room with standing water unless you have turned off electricity at the breaker box
- Operate televisions, vacuums or other appliances while standing on wet carpet or floors, especially not on wet concrete floors
- Leave wet fabrics in place; space them apart and dry as soon as possible
- Use heat to dry closed building interiors; mildew and expanded damage may result
